Smiles by the duckload! Care home hosts its own county show

Home news

A Hythe care home organised its own county show - complete with special feathered and furry visitors.

The team at Care UK’s Carpathia Grange, on Southampton Road, hosted its own version of the New Forest Show after the real event was cancelled.

Ensuring the scene was set for the ‘Carpathia Grange County Show’, the team decorated the home with flags and bunting, and even designed their own signpost complete with arrows to the villages of ‘Nomansland’ and ‘Beaulieu’.

There was also a special visit from Popell Mobile Farm which brought sheep, Guinea pigs, ducks, rabbits and even a pony to interact with the residents. The home’s head chef also hosted a barbecue for everyone to enjoy.

As part of the show, residents selected gifts for family members from stalls which contained crafts homemade by residents ahead of the event. The craft stalls included homemade hair clips, handbags, and fudge.

Residents were also encouraged to share their favourite memories of the New Forest Show:

Mavis O’Donnell said: “I have attended the New Forest Show many times over the years. I loved spending the time with my family and buying crafts from the stalls.

“The Carpathia Grange New Forest Show brought back those memories as I chose gifts for my granddaughters which had been made by other residents.

“My favourite part of the whole day was the pony, Chas, who was very gentle.”

Pooja Dhoot, Home Manager at Carpathia Grange, said: “Carpathia Grange residents love the New Forest Show, and were so disappointed when it was cancelled again. So, we decided to host our very own event, and residents were thrilled to take part in our version of the well-loved show. Everyone enjoyed helping with preparations, including creating craft items for the stalls. The highlight was certainly the animals that visited.

“Here at Carpathia Grange, we strive to create an environment that allows individuals to live fulfilling lives, and this was a great opportunity to get the residents to share memories of the show.

“I would like to thank Popell Mobile Farm for bringing the wonderful animals. Residents and team members alike had a brilliant day - it was a great success!”

Carpathia Grange is a three-storey care home, which provides residential, dementia and nursing care, features 62 ensuite bedrooms, and has been designed to enable its residents to live active and fulfilled lives, while also promoting independence. The care home incorporates space for hobby and leisure activities and includes its own cinema, hair salon and café.
