A fa-brew-lous afternoon! Local care home raises money for national charity

Home news

A Shinfield care home whisked up £648 for charity after taking part in the world’s biggest coffee morning.

Residents at Care UK’s Parsons Grange, on Westall Street, spent an afternoon selling freshly prepared cakes in Shinfield to local members of the community to raise funds for Macmillan Cancer Support.

The selection of cupcakes, doughnuts, muffins and sponge cakes went down a treat, with the home raising £324 – which was then matched by Care UK, making a grand total of £648 for the worthy cause.

Every year Macmillan organises the ‘World’s Biggest Coffee Morning’ in kitchens, offices and village halls across the globe to fundraise for people facing cancer. Since the very first coffee morning in 1990 over £290 million has been raised for the charity, enabling them to support individuals from diagnosis, through treatment and beyond.

Anthony Browne, Home Manager at Parsons Grange, said: “We want to say a big thank you to everyone that came along to our cake sale and helped us raise a fantastic amount for Macmillan Cancer Support.

“Our Macmillan Coffee Morning is an annual event which everyone at Parsons Grange always looks forward to and this year was a huge amount of fun. It was great to see residents engaging with the local community this year, and for everyone involved to give something back to a charity which focuses on helping and supporting those in need."

“The difficulty of facing cancer is a problem most of us know far too well, whether through watching the struggle of a friend or family member, or battling the illness ourselves, so we understand the importance of the work that Macmillan does."

This event gives us a wonderful opportunity to get our chef hats on and plan a fun afternoon for residents and the Parsons Grange team to get involved in, all while raising funds to support the vital services provided by Macmillan.
