Never go to bed on an argument – the secret to a long marriage according to Bromsgrove residents

Love was in the air at a Bromsgrove care home when two residents celebrated a very special milestone. 

Bill, 90, and Maureen, 89, toasted their 69^th wedding anniversary at Care UK’s Chandler Court, on Recreation Road, where they both live.

 

Bill and Maureen met in London in the 1940s through mutual friends, while Bill worked at a print shop. They lost touch for two years when Bill was called for National Service in the RAF, but reconnected when he came back and took her out dancing. They fell in love then, and married in Brixton in September 1952. 

After renewing their vows in 1962, they moved to Surrey in 1964, where they raised their three children. When asked the secret to a long and happy marriage, they both agreed the key was to “never go to bed on an argument”. 

To toast the special milestone, Chandler Court’s chef prepared a surprise romantic meal for two in the home’s garden, which was specially decorated for the occasion. Pictures of the couple over the years were showcase, and they enjoyed champagne, a cheese board and chocolate cake.
