Double success! Sevenoaks care home celebrates award recognition

Home achievement

A care home in Sevenoaks is celebrating after attaining a national accreditation for its excellence in care and being shortlisted for a prestigious national award at an upcoming ceremony.

Care UK’s Weald Heights, on Bourchier Close, received the prestigious honour from the National Gold Standards Framework (GSF) Centre, the UK’s largest provider of training in end-of-life care. The care home scored highly across every area of the report, including dementia awareness, training and increased collaborative working with the local hospice.

GSF Quality Hallmark Awards are presented to homes that demonstrate real improvement in the quality of care they provide. Many halve both the number of their residents dying in hospital as well as crisis hospital admissions, leading to greater satisfaction for families, residents and staff and significant cost savings for the NHS.

Adding to their success, the housekeeping team at Weald Heights, led by Head Housekeeper, Theresa Ford, has been shortlisted for ‘Quality in Housekeeping’ at the Caring UK Awards. They celebrate excellence across the care sector, and highlight the outstanding contributions made by care home teams.

The ‘Quality in Housekeeping’ category recognises a team that has worked together to overcome the challenges created by the pandemic, and which has gone above and beyond normal service requirements to make a positive impact on the service they provide. Theresa leads a team who all take pride in delivering an outstanding service by recognising the individual needs and preferences of the residents.

Commenting on the home’s success, Maria Covington, Home Manager of Weald Heights, said: “Here at Weald Heights, we continue to strive for the best quality care for all residents, so it’s fantastic that the team has been recognised for its continuous efforts with our GSF accreditation as well as being shortlisted at the upcoming Caring UK Awards.

“This recognition is a testament to the fantastic team here at Weald Heights and the determination each member shows in providing the highest quality of care possible, despite the unprecedented circumstances faced in the last year.

“Outstanding care begins with outstanding team members, and we’re committed to ensuring every individual is given the tools they need to succeed. This ultimately benefits residents, who are then able to live every day to the fullest.

“I’d like to say a big thank you to the whole team for everything they do for our home and for the residents. We look forward to seeing everyone at the awards ceremony later this year, and hope we come away as the winners, which really would be the cherry on top of the cake!”

The Caring UK Award winners will be announced at an awards ceremony on 2 December in Leicester.

Weald Heights is a purpose-built care home designed to deliver luxury hotel-style comfort for residents, complete with a café, hair and beauty salon, cinema and beautiful gardens.
