Framlingham care home celebrates award win

Home achievement

A care home in Framlingham is celebrating after a member of its team was presented with a prestigious award.

Team members and residents at Care UK’s Mills Meadow, on Fore Street, are celebrating after finding out Trainee Apprentice, Julie Mee, was named as ‘Apprentice of The Year’ in the Suffolk Care Awards.

The Suffolk Care Awards recognise and celebrate the work of colleagues and organisations who provide high quality care in Suffolk’s health and social care sector. Following the pandemic, the awards have focused on individuals and care organisations that have supported the wider community throughout the last nineteen months, and who are continuing to help vulnerable members navigate back to a sense of normality.

The category ‘Apprentice of the Year’ highlighted apprentices making an exceptional contribution to their workplace, having a positive impact on colleagues, residents, and the wider care community.

Taking the top spot, Julie said: “I am over the moon to have been named as ‘Apprentice of the Year’ at this year’s Suffolk Care Awards.

“I love my job, and my Mills Meadow family, and am incredibly grateful for the learning opportunities I am provided with here. My career in care is incredibly rewarding – to be able to support the older members of our community continue to live a fulfilling life is a feeling like no other, and to be given an award for doing something I love really is the cherry on the cake.”

Julie is currently embarking on her NVQ Level 2, allowing her to take on extra responsibilities and become a senior night carer. Her ultimate goal to become a care home manager.

Becky Calver, Home Manager at Mills Meadow, said: “We are over the moon that Julie has been named as Suffolk’s ‘Apprentice of the Year’!

“I can think of no one more deserving – Julie’s compassion, kindness and caring nature is infectious, and her consistent enthusiasm to learn is what sets her apart. I have no doubt that she will make a fantastic home manager one day, and until then, we continue to be incredibly grateful to have such a wonderful colleague, carer and person as part of the Mills Meadow family.”

Mills Meadow is a care home designed to deliver the very best standards of care, and to enable residents to live active and fulfilled lives. The home offers a range of services including residential care, specialist dementia care and respite care.
