Music experts team up with Ware care home to help local people live well with dementia

Home news

A care home in Ware is hoping to hit the right note by inviting the community to a free, virtual event for families caring for loved ones living with dementia.

On Thursday 31st March, from 2pm-3pm, Care UK’s Snowdrop House, on Baldock Street, will be hosting a virtual event – The Dementia Music Show.

Grace Meadows, Music Therapist for Music for Dementia, will be covering a number of topics including the proven benefits of music and reminiscence for older people living with the condition.

The team at Snowdrop House will discuss the role music plays in dementia care within the home, with Paul Sparrey from Family Favourites, and Kerry Brabant from Herts Musical Memories also on hand to share the platforms and resources available in the community.

Clare Crow, Home Manager at Snowdrop House, said: “There are currently 900,000 people living with dementia in the UK – and it is estimated that a further 209,600 individuals will develop it this year alone*. We know that this also means many families will be affected too, so our event aims to offer tips and ideas, such as listening to music, to support their loved ones to live well with the condition – as well as ensuring people are aware of the community resources available.

“It can be challenging to look after a friend or relative living with dementia, and we want people to know they’re not alone, and that there are many activities and ways to engage with a loved one living with the condition. Events like this one have proven popular in the past, and we’re hoping to share even more expertise moving forward.”

For anyone unsure about how to take part in the virtual event, help is at hand. The team at Snowdrop House will host the event using Teams, which is very easy to use. Simply email Customer Relations Manager Sharon Butler and she will provide the link and instructions on how to take part.

Snowdrop House delivers a full range of residential and nursing care for older people, including short-term respite care, and specialist care for people living with Alzheimer’s and other forms of dementia.

To book your place at this event, or to find out more about Snowdrop House, please call Customer Relations Manager Sharon Butler on 01920 897553 or email sharon.butler@careuk.com.
