Hythe care home shortlisted for national award

Home achievement

A care home in Hythe is celebrating after being shortlisted in the Care Home Awards 2022.

Care UK’s Carpathia Grange, on Southampton Road, has been shortlisted in the ‘Best for Use of Care Management Software’ category, which recognises the teams’ efforts to use systems and tools to ensure residents live fulfilling lives.

The Care Home Awards recognise and reward excellence and innovation in UK care home management, operation and delivery. The winners will be announced at the annual awards ceremony in July.

Carpathia Grange has been recognised for the wide range of care management systems and tools (CMS) the team has embraced which have enabled them to transform the lives of residents.

From activity apps to ensure residents are physically, mentally, and emotionally fulfilled, to medication control systems, which can help to decrease unnecessary reliance on drugs – the home uses CMS to ensure residents receive the safest and best possible care so they can live fulfilled and comfortable lives.

These systems are especially helpful for the Head Chef and catering team, who can observe what residents are eating and drinking, whether they enjoy non-alcoholic drinks or alcoholic drinks, for example. The team uses the data to create personalised catering, and the findings are added to resident’s care plan.

The home team has also successfully introduced Relish, an app which allows the team to keep records of resident’s history and life in the home. It is also used to source activities and record residents’ engagement and reactions. The information forms the basis of regular communication with residents’ families and, together residents, their families, and the Carpathia Grange team are able to build a selection of activities based on preferences, cognition, and physical abilities.

A resident’s relative said: “When Mum moved into Carpathia Grange she was poorly, unable to walk and her appetite was poor...We were absolutely amazed as a family that within two to three months of mum’s move into the home she was able to mobilise with a frame, her appetite improved and as a result her weight increased.

“She literally looked like a different lady...the improvement in Mum’s health was due to excellent care and the best use of latest technology to monitor her health, mobility and limit the risk of falls for her.”

The home also uses a Magic Table, a giant electronic device used for interactive games, which is especially beneficial to residents living with dementia. A resident said: “I love selecting music on the Magic Table myself. The music is fun, I like to dance.”

Pooja Dhoot, Home Manager at Carpathia Grange, added: “We are thrilled to be nominated for ‘Best for Use of Care Management Software’ category at this years’ Care Home Awards for using data and information from a wide range of care management systems and tools to transform the lives of residents.

“Being shortlisted is testament to the team’s hard work and innovative thinking to ensure every resident leads a happy and fulfilling life. From activity apps, to medication control systems, the home uses CMS to ensure residents receive the safest and best possible care so they can live happy lives.

“We’d like to wish everyone shortlisted good luck – we have our fingers crossed for the final in July!”
