A helping hand – Newbury care home supports Ukrainian children

Highlighted home news

A Newbury care home is supporting children being evacuated from Ukraine.

Residents, relatives and team members at Care UK’s Winchcombe Place, on Maple Crescent, have come together to gather donations for Ukrainian families.

After issuing a call-out to friends and families, the team at Winchcombe Place was overwhelmed with donations to support Ukrainian families. Among the vital items collected were nappies, hygiene products, toothbrushes, and tinned food, all of which have now been sent to Ukraine.

Kerry Thompson, Home Manager at Winchcombe Place, said: “Much like the rest of the country, we were devastated to hear about the situation in Ukraine – which is why we knew we had to do our bit to help.

“Many residents at the home have known war in their lifetime, so they understand more than most just how difficult things are for Ukrainian families right now. They also know how much of a difference these donations can make and came up with the idea to collect vital items – an initiative we were more than happy to support.

“It’s been truly heart-warming to have the community respond to our appeal and contribute. We’re incredibly proud of the residents’ generosity and hope our donation will make a difference in families’ lives.”

Winchcombe Place is a state-of-the-art care home which provides full-time residential, nursing, dementia and short-term respite care. The care home incorporates space for hobby and leisure activities and includes its own cinema, hair salon and café.
