Aloha! Church Crookham care home celebrates eighth birthday with a special guest

Home news

A care home in Church Crookham has celebrated its eighth anniversary in style.

The team at Bourley Grange, on Bourley Road, pulled out all the stops for a special birthday celebration, eight years after it welcomed its very first residents.

Residents, relatives, friends of the home, and Councillor of Church Crookham and Ewshott, Stephen Parker, were transported to a tropical island for the day with a colourful Hawaiian themed birthday celebration.

VIP guest, Councillor Parker, had the important job of cutting the cake for everyone to enjoy, which had been specially baked by the home’s baker Charlotte. A second cake was cut by long term resident Janie who also treated visitors to an impromptu speech.

Guests sipped on tropical cocktails and mocktails, and enjoyed an exotic barbecue, complete with all the trimmings and prepared by Head Chef Darwin. The home was decorated with flowers, garlands and balloons, and a Hawaiian dancer and steel drummer entertained guests, which got everyone’s feet tapping.

After the celebration, resident Janie said: “The party was absolutely fantastic. The best party I’ve ever been to. My brother, his wife and my son said the same. The food was amazing, and entertainment was great... We are lucky that we have such a large and beautiful garden… do you know that in my 82 years I haven’t been to a better party!”

Racquel Merdegia, General Manager at Bourley Grange, said: “It was wonderful to see residents outside enjoying our transformed garden to toast the special milestone, and to have the Councillor of Church Crookham join us to celebrate really was the cherry on the birthday cake!

“The whole team worked hard to organise the event, and I am delighted to say that their efforts were rewarded – our birthday party will definitely be one to remember for years to come. I would like to say a big thank you to everyone who makes Bourley Grange an amazing place to call home, and for helping to make the day extra special.

“It’s been a busy eight years. We’ve welcomed some real characters to the home, built relationships with brilliant local organisations, and worked hard to create a homely environment for everyone who spends time with us here at Bourley Grange. We’re excited to see what’s in store for the next eight years and beyond!”
