Bury St Edmunds care home launches dementia support group for local people

Home news

A care home in Bury St Edmunds has launched a support group for local people caring for a loved one living with dementia.

On Thursday 8th December, from 10am-12pm, Care UK’s Davers Court, on Shakers Lane, is inviting members of the community to its ‘Dementia Café’, providing individuals with a chance to meet likeminded people, share experiences, and access guidance.

Aimed at those caring for a loved one living with the condition, the session will provide a valuable opportunity for individuals caring for someone with dementia to meet others in the same boat and form support networks.

Alongside team members from Davers Court, Andrea from Suffolk Family Carers will also be on hand. The local charity has been supporting family carers throughout the region for over 30 years, providing information and workshops to help carers lead fuller lives.

Sally Shadbolt, Home Manager at Davers Court, said: “We understand how difficult it can be caring for a loved one living with dementia, which is why we launched the Dementia Café to bring individuals together for an informal chat which will hopefully provide some useful guidance.

“With extensive experience caring for residents living with the condition, the team here at Davers Court have a lot of knowledge and advice and can offer comfort, guidance, and support and we’re keen to share that with those caring for loved ones at home.

“We’re looking forward to welcoming members of the community to meet others in similar situations and anticipate it will be an incredibly helpful morning for all involved.”

Guests will also be able to pick up a copy of Care UK’s free guide, Let’s Talk About Dementia, which offers insight and guidance in an easy-to-read Q&A format. Tapping into more than 40 years of experience providing care for people living with dementia, the guide includes knowledge from Care UK’s experts, including Home Managers and team members from more than 150 care homes.

Davers Court is a state-of-the-art care home which provides full-time residential, dementia and short-term respite care. The care home incorporates space for hobby and leisure activities and includes its own cinema, hair salon and café.
