Ready for take-off: Dorset residents fly down memory lane with surprise museum trip

Home news

Dorset care home residents reminisced about their younger years during a special museum trip.

Two residents at Care UK’s Ferndown Manor, on Golf Links Road, 78-year-old Gordon Davies and 84-year-old David Robinson winged their way to the Bournemouth Aviation Museum for a trip down memory lane.

The duo, who share a passion for all things aviation, were given a tour of the museum which has a unique collection of British aircraft from the ‘golden age’ of British aircraft manufacture. They also had the opportunity to get up close to the aircraft, including models from the end of World War Two, right up until the 1970s.

David said: “I used to visit frequently with my family and found it really interesting going back. I had a great afternoon.”

Sara Muslin, Home Manager at Ferndown Manor, said: “We love to go the extra mile for the residents and understand what’s really important to them here at Ferndown Manor. Gordon and David have always had a fascination with planes, so it was brilliant to see them spread their wings and light up the minute they arrived at the museum.

“It was a wonderful experience for everyone involved and I am so pleased we were able to make this such a special day trip for Gordon and David.”

Ferndown Manor has been designed to deliver the very best standards of care and to enable residents to live active and fulfilled lives in a luxury environment.
