Edinburgh care home team member celebrates national award win

Home achievement

A care home in Edinburgh is celebrating after a team member scooped a national award.

The Residential Care Services (RCS) Stars awards recognise individual and team excellence at more than 150 care homes nationwide across Care UK.

Team member Evelyn Heron, Senior Carer at Care UK’s Murrayside, on South Beechwood, took home the ‘Carer of the Year’ award, which recognises those who deliverer outstanding care and support, and make a real difference to the experience of care home residents.

Admired by team members and residents alike for her dedication, commitment and focus, Evelyn was praised by the judges for her role as dementia care champion – which ultimately set her apart from competitors in the category.

Praised by the whole team for her continued approachability and work ethic, Evelyn is valued greatly at the home. Her special bond with residents is second to none, taking the time to ensure every resident is comfortable and happy. Adaptable and hardworking, it is Evelyn’s kindness and commitment in particular that truly inspires those working alongside her.

Evelyn commented on her win: “It feels so good to be recognised and to know that our efforts and hard work are seen. I love working in care – I love the residents and our dementia suite. I know them incredibly well which means I can really support them on their dementia journey.”

Suzanne Welsh, Home Manager at Murrayside, added: “The awards ceremony was a fantastic opportunity to celebrate the dedication of team members and Evelyn in particular, as well as the positive impact this has on residents.

“Evelyn is extremely passionate about the residents and ensuring that they are cared for in the best way possible. A determined and caring individual, Evelyn brings a wonderful blend of expertise and skill in the care sector – inspiring others to raise the bar too.

“It’s wonderful to see Evelyn recognised for all her hard work, going above and beyond to ensure Murrayside is a fantastic place to call home – we are so lucky to have you and a huge congrats!”
