No red cards here! Hailsham care home grants residents’ wish

Highlighted home news

The team hit the back of the net for three Hailsham residents whose dream came true when they visited a local football ground.

Barry Mitchell, Barry Wardle and John Sayers, residents at Care UK’s Bowes House, on Battle Road, enjoyed a special tour of Brighton & Hove Albion Football Club. The trio were able to reminisce about their younger years – many of which they spent at the local ground.

The tour included a look around the dressing rooms, stands, and even the VIP executive boxes and the boardroom.

All three residents are avid football fans and used to love attending games at their local stadiums when they were younger.

The trip formed part of the home’s ‘Wishing Tree’ initiative, which encourages residents to put their dreams forward, allowing them to reconnect with a past hobby or try something completely new. This could be flying a plane or enjoying a fish and chip supper, no request is too big or small.

Barry Wardle said: “I really enjoyed seeing all the areas on the tour and loved being back in a football stadium again.”

Karen Milligan, Senior Customer Relations Manager at Bowes House, said: “We love going above and beyond for our residents at Bowes House and our Wishing Tree is a great opportunity for us to learn what's important to them.

“We loved watching the residents’ faces light up when they entered the stadium and we thoroughly enjoyed listening to their memories of watching Brighton play. The team have been hard at work trying to make this happen and it is so rewarding to see how much it means to the gentlemen.”

Bowes House is a state-of-the-art care home which provides full-time residential, nursing and dementia care, as well as short-term respite care.
