Getting Cambridge talking – care home to help local people understand more about dementia

Home news

A care home in Cambridge is inviting the local community to learn more about dementia.

On Thursday 23rd March, from 2pm-4pm, Heathlands House, on Bullen Close, is inviting members of the community to learn more about dementia by delving into the topics not usually discussed.

Aimed at those caring for a loved one living with the condition, the session will provide practical advice on what dementia is and how memories are lost, as well as useful tips on how to overcome communication barriers and discover positive approaches to living with the condition.

To help with the session, Heathlands House is welcoming Dr Nori Graham, Vice President of the Alzheimer’s Society, who will help explain what it’s like to live with dementia, as well as discuss the types of support available for at-home carers and advice for engaging with a loved one living with the condition.

Care UK’s free guide, Let’s Talk About Dementia, also offers insight and guidance in an easy-to-read Q&A format. Tapping into more than 40 years of experience providing care for people living with dementia, the guide includes knowledge from Care UK’s experts, including Home Managers and team members from more than 150 care homes. Those attending the event will be able to pick up a free copy while at the home.

Razvan Stanbeca, Home Manager at Heathlands House, said: “We understand how difficult it can be navigating the changes that come when caring for a loved one living with dementia.

“With extensive experience caring for residents living with the condition, the team here at Heathlands House have a lot of knowledge and advice to share to offer comfort, guidance, and support.

“We’re looking forward to welcoming Dr Nori Graham for what we anticipate will be an incredibly helpful afternoon for all involved.”
