Hop to it! Eye care home welcomes a host of furry friends

Home news

Residents at a care home in Eye were delighted when several four-legged friends trotted, hopped and leaped into their care home for a special visit.

The animals went in two by two at Care UK’s Hartismere Place, on Castleton Way, when four dogs and three larger than life rabbits visited residents in celebration of ‘National Love Your Pet Day’.

Showcasing the furry members of their families, team members brought along their pets for a morning filled with nibbling lettuce leaves and playing fetch. Residents were thrilled to have the opportunity to stroke and pet the friendly creatures, even getting to hold them and feed them treats.

Claire Martin, Home Manager at Hartismere Place, said: “We had a fantastic time celebrating National Love Your Pet Day with some of our favourite furry friends. You could see from everyone’s reactions how engaged they were to pet the lovely animals, and it was wonderful to meet some of the pets we’ve heard so much about.

“Here at Hartismere Place, we know just how beneficial animal therapy can be for older people – especially those living with dementia. Being close to animals can help lift a person’s mood, stimulate social interaction and ease agitation – and our cuddly companions were brilliant at doing just that!”

Hartismere Place has been designed to deliver the very best standards of care and to enable residents to live active and fulfilled lives. The home provides full-time residential, residential dementia, as well as short term respite care.
