Mayor to help open town’s newest care home

Home news

Shrewsbury’s newest care home is inviting the local community to attend its grand launch event – where there’ll be some very special guests.

On Tuesday 21st March, from 2pm-4.30pm, local people are invited to visit Oxbow Manor, on Oteley Road, to join in the celebrations, complete with VIP guests to cut the ribbon and some fluffy friends to keep everyone entertained.

With the first residents having moved into Oxbow Manor in January, everyone is now gearing up to mark its official opening – and helping to mark the special occasion will be the Mayor of Shrewsbury, Councillor Elisabeth Roberts, and Shrewsbury Rotarian, Margaret Thrower.

On arrival, guests will be met by the team in the home’s main reception area where they can enjoy welcome drinks and canapes. After the ceremonial cutting of the ribbon, to officially open the home, visitors will have the opportunity to find out exactly what life is like at Oxbow Manor.

There’ll be plenty of fun activities, including meeting some friendly alpacas in the home’s garden, chocolate decorating and arts and crafts. A special selection of homemade cakes will be prepared by the home’s head chef for everyone to enjoy.

There will also be plenty of time for a glass or two of bubbly and to take in the wonderful sounds of Shrewsbury’s finest acoustic duo, Hannah & Brian, who will be singing classic tunes throughout the event.

Visitors will also have the chance to meet the team at Oxbow Manor and take a tour of the care home.

Lindsey Quegan, Home Manager at Oxbow Manor, said: “Since we opened the doors to Oxbow Manor, we have had such a warm and positive response from those living locally, and we already feel like part of the community. We would therefore like to invite the people of Shrewsbury to be part of our official opening celebrations.

“We have planned a family-friendly event to appeal to all ages, and we are delighted to have so many special guests coming along to help us mark this important milestone.”

Oxbow Manor is a state-of-the-art care home which provides full-time residential, nursing and dementia care, as well as short-term respite care. Designed to enable residents to live enjoyable and fulfilling lives, the home has its very own cinema, café and hair salon, and there is plenty of space – both indoors and out – for relaxation and recreation.
