Pearls of wisdom! Bromsgrove care home residents share career advice with local youngsters

Home news

Residents at a care home in Bromsgrove have been passing on their career advice to the younger generation to celebrate National Careers Week.

Care UK’s Chandler Court, on Recreation Road, welcomed pupils from Bromsgrove School into the home for National Careers Week, so residents could share their advice with the local children.

Working in many different roles and sectors, from the police force to the healthcare industry, residents were keen to share their expert advice and tips for a long and successful career.

Bill Spencer, 92-year-old resident from Chandler Court, who advised children to ‘have an interest in their career’ in order to progress, said: “Talking with the children brought back good memories – I enjoyed my career, in particular my own carpet business as I like meeting new people.”

Vongai Mushinga, Home Manager at Chandler Court, added: “Intergenerational activities are a huge part of life here at Chandler Court, and it was fantastic to be joined by schoolchildren to discuss the career advice that residents had to share from their own experience.

"Intergenerational relationships can be incredibly fulfilling, as they give younger and older generations a chance to learn from one another. These connections can be especially helpful for older people as they can provide a sense of purpose and spark discussions about their lives.

"We'd like to say a huge thanks to pupils from Bromsgrove School for coming along and participating – we look forward to welcoming everyone into the home again very soon."

Chandler Court is a state-of-the-art care home which provides full-time residential, dementia and nursing care, as well as short-term respite care. Designed to enable its residents to live enjoyable and fulfilling lives, the care home has its very own cinema, café and hair salon, and there is plenty of space, both indoors and out, for relaxation and recreation.
