Living the hive life – Chester residents celebrate World Bee Day with pupils

Highlighted home news

A care home in Chester has created a buzz among local students.

Residents at Care UK’s Deewater Grange, on Chester Road, teamed up with Huntington Primary School students to mark World Bee Day.

Residents got their celebrations off to a flying start by creating an array of un-bee-lievably wholesome items to gift the pupils. This included special bee pompoms, as well as a ‘bee bombs’ – wildflower and seeds rolled into balls – which will help build a bee and butterfly-friendly garden at the school once planted.

Once finalised, residents and team members took their creations to Huntington Primary School and spent the afternoon discussing ways generations can work together to help protect the planet with pupils.

Sheila Edwards, a resident at Deewater Grange, and former headmistress, said: “It was so fabulous to be able to donate our lovely bees to the children, we had so much fun on our visit over to the school.”

Sally Cooper, Home Manager at Deewater Grange, said: “We had a fantastic time celebrating World Bee Day with pupils at Huntington Primary School.

“Many residents at Deewater Grange are passionate about nature and speak fondly of the time they used to spend outdoors in their younger years. They’ve witnessed the many changes our environment has gone through, so it was great to give them an opportunity to reminisce, but also share stories with local children.

“We’re looking forward to visiting Huntington Primary School again and to seeing their gardens flourish!”

Deewater Grange is a state-of-the-art home which provides full-time residential, dementia and nursing care. The home has been designed to enable residents to live active and fulfilled lives, while also promoting independence, and incorporates space for hobby and leisure activities, including its own café, bar, cinema as well as a hair and beauty salon.
