‘Outstanding’ Macclesfield care home manager wins national award

A Macclesfield care home is celebrating after its home manager won a prestigious national award. 

Tracy Norbury, Home Manager at Care UK’s Hollins Park, on Victoria Road, was named ‘Best Dementia Care Manager’ in the country at the National Dementia Care Awards. 

The National Dementia Care Awards, established by the Journal of Dementia Care, highlight outstanding contributions to specialist dementia care, and reward team members who demonstrate advanced knowledge of the condition. 

 

Tracy, who has worked in the care sector for almost twenty years, has been the home manager at Hollins Park since 2017. Judges noted, how under Tracy’s leadership, the home has been rated ‘Outstanding’ by the CQC, a national watchdog. 

A dedicated leader with a can-do attitude, Tracy always arrives early enough in the mornings to greet the night team, and ensures she has a chance to speak with every resident or colleague each day. 

Leading by example, she regularly picks up night shifts at the home as a registered nurse to seek more opportunities to connect with residents, and prioritises sitting down with them during mealtimes. Tracy said: “Mealtimes should be an enjoyable and social experience, and with dementia can come a lot of anxiety with food, so we’re doing what we can to be present and combat that.”

In addition to supporting residents, Tracy also believes in encouraging team members to develop into the best version of their professional selves. As such, she spends as much time as possible with every new starter and allocates team members with specific projects to give them a chance to shine. 

Commenting on her success, Tracy said: “I’m incredibly proud to be named ‘Best Dementia Care Manager’. I’m very lucky to have such a strong team alongside me, and together we work hard to make Hollins Park a fantastic place to live. Both the residents and the team make this a dream job to come to work to each day.”
