Bromsgrove care home residents travel back in time

A Bromsgrove care home created a unique cinema experience to transport residents back to the fifties. 

Residents at Care UK’s Chandler Court, on Recreation Road, stepped back in time as the home’s cinema was transformed into the golden era of the 1950s for a very special event – where they were able to reminisce and recall happy memories from their younger days.

The team went all out to decorate the home to create a 1950s inspired setting, with Grease themed bunting and inflatable instruments scattered around the home. For a truly immersive experience, team members and residents donned their best polka dot neck scarves, hair ribbons and leather jackets. 

Residents and team members also put on their dancing shoes as they boogied to a 1950s-themed karaoke. After enjoying diner-stye burgers and fries for lunch, residents were treated to a screening of the all-time classic film Grease.

Mavis White, a resident at Chandler Court, said: “The whole day was very enjoyable – with all the music, singing and the food! My favourite part of the day was seeing everyone all dressed up, the team always go the extra mile.”

Tina Lilly, Home Manager at Chandler Court, said: “We loved being able to create our Grease experience for residents and watch them sit back and relax as they travelled back in time to the 1950s.

“Here at Chandler Court, we’re always coming up with new and exciting activities that help residents lead happy and fulfilling lives. No matter your age, films can transport you to around the world and across the decades – and with Grease being a resident favourite, we knew a 1950s party was sure to be a hit. It was great fun transforming our cinema and wearing our best outfits for this very special event, it’s not every day you get to travel back in time! 

“We were so pleased that it was a huge success – I’m sure this will be the first of many movie-themed events!”

Chandler Court is a state-of-the-art care home which provides full-time residential, dementia and nursing care, as well as short-term respite care.
