Ware care home resident returns to school she worked at for over 20 years

Home news

A resident at a care home in Ware was delighted to don her teaching hat again after 32 years away from the blackboard.

When the team at Care UK’s Snowdrop House, on Baldock Street, learned that 92-year-old retired-teacher Pamela Robinson was keen to revisit her old workplace, they were determined to make it happen.

Pamela began her career in education when she was 20, inspired by a passion to make a difference. For over 40 years, Pamela worked as a primary school teacher, spending over 20 of these at Christchurch Primary School, where she was highly regarded by both her students and peers alike for her passion, enthusiasm and energy.

The team at Snowdrop House arranged for Pamela to teach a lesson to the current year two pupils, where she was able to meet some of the current children and teachers and share experiences and stories of how things have changed.

Commenting on the day, Pamela said: “It was so lovely to go back – it brought back such vivid memories!”

Clare Crow, Home Manager at Snowdrop House, added: Pamela loves to talk about her memories from teaching so, in honour of World Teacher Day, the team decided to surprise her with a trip back to her old school.

Pamela had a wonderful time sharing her knowledge and experience with some of the current students, and loved having the opportunity to chat about her memories and learn how things have changed over the years.

“I’d like to extend a big thank you to the team and students at Christchurch Primary School for welcoming Pamela, and to the team here at Snowdrop House for organising such a meaningful day for Pamela!”

Snowdrop House is a state-of-the-art care home which provides full-time residential, nursing, dementia and short-term respite care. The care home incorporates space for hobby and leisure activities and includes its own cinema, hair salon and café.
