Horndean care home resident’s wish comes to fruit-ition

Home news

A care home in Horndean was delighted to welcome a special guest to help them pay homage to its namesake.

Care UK’s Pear Tree Court, on Portsmouth Road, welcomed Councillor Anthony Williams, to plant the home’s first pear tree.

The planting was inspired by resident, Raymond John, who asked the team why the home did not have its very own pear tree. Agreeing that this should be rectified, the team set about organising the first one to be planted, and for Raymond to be part of the special ceremony.

Talking about the day, Raymond, who used to work as a scientist, said: “I am looking forward to my walks in the garden watching the tree grow and eating some pear pie when the fruit eventually appears.”

Aimee Sparks, Home Manager of Pear Tree Court, said: “We were delighted to plant our first pear tree on the grounds of Pear Tree Court and to have Anthony join us to take part in the official tree planting.

“Spending time in outdoors and in nature is especially beneficial for the mental and physical wellbeing of residents. In the warmer months, we all enjoy spending a lot of time in the garden, looking at the plants and flowers, and the pear tree is a very fitting addition to our outdoor space.

“We are all pleased to see Raymond’s wish come to fruition and we hope to soon be enjoying the fruit of our labour!”

Pear Tree Court is a state-of-the-art care home which provides full-time residential, nursing and dementia care, as well as short-term respite care. Designed to enable residents to live enjoyable and fulfilling lives, the care home has its very own cinema and hair salon, and there is plenty of space both indoors and out for relaxation and recreation.
