St Ives care home shortlisted for two national awards

Home news

A care home in St Ives is celebrating after being announced as a finalist for two prestigious national awards.

Care UK’s Field Lodge, on London Road, has been shortlisted in the Care Home Awards 2024

The awards recognise teams and individuals that epitomise excellence, innovation, dedication and outstanding contributions within the care catering sector.

Having wowed judges with the team’s dedication to providing the highest standards of care, Field Lodge is in the running for the coveted titles of ‘Outstanding Care Provider in a Group’ and ‘Best for Specialist Care’.

After becoming the first Care UK home to be awarded the ‘Care Fit for VIPs’ accreditation from Worcester University, which acknowledges a gold-tier level of care for residents living with dementia, as well as their relatives, the team from Field Lodge have continue to set the bar high.

The team at Field Lodge make it a priority every day to fulfil the lives of residents, focusing on ‘resident-led’ care in everything from food choices to activities. A range of dementia-friendly activities are available to all residents, headed by the home’s very own Dementia Care Champion, Keri Barker. Residents are supported to choose their own schedules, with the aim of increasing socialisation and encourage residents to pursue hobbies old and new.

As a Mental Health First Aider, the Home Manager, Linda Martinez, is passionate about mental wellbeing and has recruited additional ‘mental health buddies’ within the team, trained not only to support their colleagues but to recognise and respond to the needs of residents as well.

The home also has close ties with the local community, keeping residents engaged and involved with those around them. From inviting a nearby primary school for reading sessions, to welcoming a local drag queen to celebrate Pride Month, visitors are always welcome at Field Lodge.

Commenting on their success, Linda said: “We’re delighted to have been nominated for not just one, but two awards – it’s incredibly rewarding to have our hard work recognised nationally.

“The whole team work tirelessly to make Field Lodge a wonderful place to call home, ensuring everyone feels welcome and supported. I’m so proud of the team for their care, commitment and dedication!”

The winners will be announced at the awards ceremony on 17 May.

Field Lodge is a modern, purpose-built care home providing full-time residential, nursing, and dementia care, as well as short-term respite care. Designed to enable residents to live enjoyable and fulfilling lives, the care home has a choice of lounges and dining rooms, along with facilities such as an activity room, cinema and hair salon.
