Kent care homes host sports days for local community

Home news

With the Olympics fast approaching, care home residents across Kent are limbering up for their very own sporting tournament.

Care UK’s Harrier Lodge, Invicta Court, and Montfort Manor, will be bringing Paris to Kent as all four homes open their doors for local people to enjoy their own version of the Games.

The events comes as these homes join The Big Care UK Sports Day, which sees over 130 Care UK homes across the UK host sports days for the local community and showcase what life in a care home is really like.

Guests can soak up the sporting atmosphere and, for those daring to compete, have the chance to win their own gold medals with an afternoon of fun and games, including egg-and-spoon races, tugs of war and knockout tennis tournaments.

There are four events to choose from across the region:

  • Montfort Manor – Wednesday 24th July from 2.30pm
  • Harrier Lodge – Friday 26th July from 2pm
  • Invicta Court – Saturday 27th July from 2pm

Harrier Lodge and Montfort Manor visitors can enjoy live entertainment on the day with Montfort Manor cooking up a traditional summer barbecue prepared by the homes’ talented Head Chef. Harrier Lodge will instead indulge guests in a strawberry and cream tea, complete with Pimm’s and prosecco.

Visitors to Invicta Court will be joined by the Mayor of Maidstone, John Perry, where there will be French-themed refreshments on offer, including vol au vents, chicken liver pate canapes and Quiche Lorraine. Residents have also been enlisted to make their very own Olympic-style torch for the occasion.

Joanne Eaton, Home Manager at Montfort Manor, said: “We’re delighted to be welcoming the local community to join our own sporting celebrations.

“We are part of a strong community here, and days like this are a fantastic way of bringing us all together for a little healthy competition and to celebrate this year’s summer of sport, all while showcasing exactly what life is like here at Care UK homes.

“The day not only promises a lot of laughter and enjoyment for all involved, but also is an excellent way for residents to meet and mingle with lots of new faces – and some familiar ones – while keeping active. We can’t wait until kick-off!”

Harrier Lodge, Invicta Court and Montfort Manor have been designed to deliver the very best standards of care and to enable residents to live active and fulfilled lives. The homes provide residential, nursing and specialist dementia care, as well as respite, and end of life care.
