A Cardiff care home has celebrated National Day of Arts in Care Homes with a truly colourful activity.
Residents at Care UK’s Llys Herbert on Ty-Draw Road welcomed local primary school, St Bernadette’s, into the care home for a creative intergenerational workshop.
This initiative brought together pupils and residents to participate in hands-on activites, including a sustainability-focused session around painting recycled plastic bottles which will be repurposed as vibrant planters in Llys Herbert’s garden.
The workshop also saw pupils and residents follow along a step-by-step tutorial on how to draw a puppy, allowing both groups to express their creativity and share their artistic talents.
Therisa Galazka, Home Manager at Llys Herbert, said: “We were delighted to be joined by St Bernadette’s to celebrate National Day of Arts in Care Homes this year. The pupils and residents had a brilliant day showing off their creative skills and we were delighted to see the session bridging the gap between the generations.
“Here at Llys Herbert, we encourage residents to take part in creative activities, particularly those living with dementia, as studies have shown that creativity can improve mental wellbeing. We also love to see residents interacting with younger generations.
“Intergenerational relationships can be incredibly special and bring so much joy to both the young and older alike, giving everyone a greater sense of wellbeing and purpose. Seeing the residents and children interacting during the workshop was truly heartwarming – everyone had a great day.”
Llys Herbert is a state-of-the-art care home which provides full-time residential and dementia care, as well as short-term respite care. Designed to enable residents to live enjoyable and fulfilling lives, the home has its very own cinema, café and hair salon, and there is plenty of space – both indoors and out – for relaxation and recreation.
