Oxfordshire care home residents and pupils join forces for Harvest Festival fun

A care home in Thame has joined forces with local nursery children to celebrate Harvest Festival.

Residents at Care UK’s Cuttlebrook Hall, on Stock Road, were joined by children from Roots For Life Nursery School for an a-maize-ing day as they celebrated the annual festival.

Everyone enjoyed a day learning about the origins of the festival, what it means for today’s society, and why this long-standing tradition should not be forgotten. Residents spent time with their younger friends and helped them show off their creativity making autumnal wreaths.

As part of their Harvest Festival celebrations, Cuttlebrook Hall has also partnered with SharingLife Foodbank, and a drop-off point for donations will be in the home’s reception until 29th October.

Each year, Harvest Festival celebrates the time when crops have been gathered from fields and people can reflect and show gratitude for the food that they have. It dates back to when people relied on local crops for food and famers would give thanks for a good harvest.

Alana Corr, Home Manager at Cuttlebrook Hall, said: “It was fantastic to welcome children from Roots For Life Nursery School to Cuttlebrook Hall to celebrate the annual Harvest Festival tradition and explore its importance today.

“Harvest Festival is a day in the calendar where we can reflect and show gratitude for the food that we have, while serving as an opportunity to connect with others, regardless of age or background, and celebrate the cultural diversity which helps make Thame a great place to call home.

“At Cuttlebrook Hall, we are always looking for ways to give back and support our community and local charities, which is why we’re delighted to be partnering with SharingLife Foodbank and launching our first ever foodbank drop-off point.

“In these challenging times, we know many people may be struggling, and with Christmas fast approaching, it’s more important than ever to support foodbanks which provide a vital lifeline for many members of our local community.

“We’d encourage those who have unwanted or unused items to come and visit Cuttlebrook Hall and support us to help those in need.”

Cuttlebrook Hall is a state-of-the-art care home which provides full-time residential, dementia and short-term respite care. The care home incorporates space for hobby and leisure activities and includes a cinema, hair salon and café.
