Newmarket care home to host free dementia advice event

A care home in Newmarket is offering guidance to those affected by a dementia diagnosis.

On Wednesday 18th June, 2pm-4pm, Care UK’s Kentford Manor, on Jeddah Way, is inviting members of the community to a special event designed to start a conversation and bust some myths about the condition.

Dementia specialist Carl George will be hosting the ‘Supporting People with Advanced Dementia’ session, shining a light on aspects of dementia that are not often talked about, why a loved one might be behaving differently and what you can do to help them.

In addition to the event, the Newmarket community can also visit an online advice hub. This includes in-depth conversations with families of people living with dementia, as well as expert advice from Care UK’s dementia specialists to learn how to reduce the risks and symptoms of the condition.

Kat Rayment, General Manager at Kentford Manor, said: “Since we first opened the doors to our care home, we’ve been committed to making Newmarket a more dementia-friendly place.

“We know just how much of a difference expert guidance can make, which is why we’re looking forward to welcoming Carl to our home. He’ll be able to give advice to carers and offer insight into what it’s like to live with the condition.

“We are looking forward to welcoming people to our event and building a community-wide support network.”

Designed to enable residents to live active and fulfilled lives, while also promoting independence, Kentford Manor incorporates plenty of space for leisure activities and hobbies. The home provides full-time residential, dementia and nursing care, as well as short-term respite care. The building has been configured into a number of suites to facilitate the creation of close-knit communities and encourage social interaction among the residents.
