Ipswich care home hosts wedding blessing for 91-year-old resident

Romance was in the air at an Ipswich care home as it celebrated the wedding of a 91-year-old resident – proving it’s never too late to find love.

Care UK’s Prince George House, on Mansbrook Boulevard, pulled out all the stops for resident Ron Gill and Viv Sadler with a wedding blessing at the home.

The happy couple were joined by family members and friends at the special ceremony, with a delicious cake baked by the home’s Head Chef.

Ron said: “I love Viv, and our wedding blessing was a lovely day. I will never forget it and want to thank everyone who helped make it special.”

After the passing of his wife, Ron joined an online community group for the over 60s in 2005 and met Viv, who had recently divorced. The two quickly fell in love and Viv moved in with Ron in Ashford, Kent, later that same year. In 2019, the couple relocated to Ipswich to be closer to family.

Some of their most treasured memories together include sunny days out in Ramsgate with Ron’s daughter, who has sadly since passed away. Those moments are especially precious as they marked the time when they got to know and love each other as a family.

Viv said: “I’d like to thank all the staff for arranging such a beautiful day for Ron and I to celebrate our love. Everything was beautifully decorated with cakes and food. I also received a framed photo and matching glasses, which was incredibly emotional. It was such an unforgettable day.

“I love Ron, and I’m so grateful to have had this special day to cherish. Thank you all!”

After 20 years of love, the couple were engaged on VE Day this year and wanted a wedding blessing to celebrate their affection with family and have memories to hold onto.

Sarah Bacon, Deputy Manager at Prince George House, said: “It was a true honour to help organise such a special day for Ron and Viv. Moments like these are what make our home so special – celebrating love, joy and the meaningful connections that continue to thrive at every stage of life.

“The entire team was delighted to play a part in making their wedding blessing a beautiful and memorable occasion.”
