Quorn care home raises £2,000 for good cause

Residents and team members at a care home in Quorn have stepped up to raise funds for a charity close to their hearts.

The team at Care UK’s Lonsdale Mews, on Farley Way, took part in a special danceathon and collected £2,077 for Parkinson’s UK.

The funds raised will support the charity in its mission to improve the lives of those living with Parkinson’s disease, as well as their families and caregivers, by campaigning for better healthcare, funding research into groundbreaking treatments and running life-changing support services.

Residents, relatives and team members came together to dance for more than six hours, all dressed in their best disco outfits.

Resident Pauline Bellerby said: “It was a pleasure to participate in such a good cause. I thoroughly enjoyed joining in and talking to those who are living with this disease.”

Toby Sturgess, Home Manager at Lonsdale Mews, said: “We absolutely love a challenge, especially when it’s for such a worthy cause. It’s wonderful to see everyone getting involved, and dancing is a perfect activity for older people to enjoy. It’s not only great for physical health, it’s also a brilliant way to connect and have fun together.

“By participating in this danceathon, we were able to raise money for a cause that is really close to our hearts. It’s also a fantastic way to stay active, which is so important for our wellbeing.

“We want to thank everyone who joined in, donated or supported us – we couldn’t have done it without you! We’re already planning our next fundraising event next month, and we can’t wait to do it all again.”

Lonsdale Mews offers full-time residential and dementia care, as well as short-term respite care. The home incorporates space for hobby and leisure activities and includes its own cinema, hair and beauty salon and pub. The layout of the building is configured into a series of individual suites, each having a dedicated lounge/dining room to facilitate the creation of close-knit communities.

Lonsdale Mews will host its next charity event – a sponsored walk in support of Parkinson’s UK – on Saturday 5th July.
