Solihull care home hosts Grand Prix garden challenge for charity

Residents and team members at a care home in Solihull crossed the finish line in style after hosting a Formula 1-themed event, raising over £400 for charity.

Care UK’s Blossomfield Grange, on Worcester Way, welcomed the local community to take part in their very own ‘Garden Grand Prix’, raising funds for Race Against Dementia.

Participants completed an impressive 1,926 laps around the home’s scenic circular garden path – a number chosen to honour the year of the first British Grand Prix and the year F1 legend Sir Jackie Stewart, who founded the charity, was born.

The home was transformed for the day, complete with chequered flags, bunting, tyres, an official start and finish line, and themed pit stops. The excitement shifted into top gear when a McLaren and Ferrari car arrived at the home for everyone to take pictures with.

Guests also enjoyed a cake sale, raffle and live entertainment, all helping to boost fundraising efforts and bring the whole community together.

Resident, Genny Andrews said: “It’s been a great day. I always love my daily walks, but today has motivated me to complete more than I usually would for a great cause.”

Jag Singh, General Manager at Blossomfield Grange, said: "The energy and enthusiasm was great – everyone went all out for a great cause. Race Against Dementia is an organisation we’re proud to support, and it was wonderful to see the residents and guests so engaged and enjoying the day.

“From the supercars to the final lap, the event was full of memorable moments. A huge thank you to everyone who helped make it such a success – we certainly raced toward the finish line together!"

Blossomfield Grange provides luxury residential and dementia care, as well as short-term respite care. Designed to enable residents to live active and fulfilled lives, while also promoting independence, the home incorporates plenty of space for leisure activities and hobbies. It has been configured into a series of neighbourhoods to facilitate the creation of close-knit communities and encourage social interaction among the residents.
