New care home donates to Saffron Walden Initiative

A new care home in Saffron Walden has made a generous donation to a local community-led group.

To celebrate its upcoming opening on Radwinter Road in 2026, Care UK’s Bailey Lodge presented Saffron Walden Initiative with a £500 donation.

The organisation is known for championing local events and civic pride, with this contribution supporting Dance in the Square – the popular August bank holiday celebration that brings residents together for music, dancing and shared joy in the heart of the town.

Jacqui Portway, Chairman at Saffron Walden Initiative, said: “I was absolutely blown away with the standard of accommodation and services for the residents. The gardens are definitely worthy of Chelsea flower show!

“I had a very enjoyable time with the team and can’t thank them enough for the Dance sponsorship, anyone residing here will have a fabulous experience, I’m sure.”

Beyond the donation, Bailey Lodge is committed to fostering long-term connections with the community. Once open, the care home will host regular sessions and activities in collaboration with Saffron Walden Initiative, offering residents opportunities to engage with local culture and events from the comfort of a new care home.

Jake Higgins, Development Project Manager at Care UK, said: “We’re delighted to be supporting the Saffron Walden Initiative. The success of this year’s Dance in the Square shows just how committed its team is to bringing people together and celebrating the spirit of the town, which aligns perfectly with our vision for Bailey Lodge.

“As we look ahead to opening our new care home in 2026, it’s important to us that we’re not just building a home but becoming part of the community. Saffron Walden Initiative’s approach and dedication to inclusive, joyful events reflect the kind of environment we want to foster – one where residents feel connected, valued and engaged.”

Bailey Lodge’s show suite is due to open on Monday 20th October.

Designed to allow residents to lead active and fulfilling lives, while also promoting independence, Bailey Lodge will incorporate plenty of space for hobby and leisure activities, with its own cinema room, hair and beauty salon and pub. The layout of the building will be configured into a series of individual suites, each having a dedicated lounge/dining room to facilitate the creation of close-knit communities. Full-time residential and dementia care will be provided, as well as short-term respite care.
