A care home is planning to leave the local community in stitches as part of a nationwide campaign.
Residents at Care UK’s Salisbury Manor, on Shapland Close, are rolling up their sleeves and getting stuck into some hands-on DIY – all in the name of sharing skills with the next generation.
The home is hosting a morning of crafting and conversation at their ‘Pearl One, Knit One’ event, with the next session taking place on Monday 17th November from 10 am – 12 pm.
Whether experienced knitters or complete beginners, those who join can enjoy the simple pleasure of knitting while sharing stories, tips and laughter.
The event ties into Care UK’s Fixer Uppers initiative, which aims to revive traditional skills and celebrate the invaluable knowledge older generations can pass on while promoting sustainability.
Tracey Pearce, Home Manager at Salisbury Manor, said: “Residents have honed their skills over a lifetime, and the Fixer Uppers project is a fantastic way for them to connect with the community and share practical knowledge in a meaningful way.
“The session is a lovely way for residents to pass on their lifelong knitting tips and tricks, so we encourage the people of Salisbury to come along and learn a new skill with us.
“It is set to be a lovely morning, and we look forward to hosting these on a monthly basis.”
Designed to enable residents to lead active and fulfilled lives, while also promoting independence, Salisbury Manor incorporates plenty of space for hobby and leisure activities. The home provides full-time residential, nursing and dementia care, as well as short-term respite care, while the layout of the building is configured into a series of individual suites, each having a dedicated lounge/dining room to facilitate the creation of close-knit communities.
