Windsor care home resident turns 100 years old in style

A 100-year-old Windsor resident celebrated her centenarian status in style with a surprise birthday party.

Elizabeth Brophy, known as Betty, a resident at Care UK’s Queens Court, on Dedworth Road, celebrated her huge milestone with a party at the home surrounded by her closest friends and family. To make the day even more special, team members decorated the home with balloons and banners and treated Betty to a cake prepared by the home’s Head Chef.

Betty’s 100th birthday marks her induction into Care UK’s recently launched Centenarian Club, which celebrates and honours residents who have reached triple figures.

When asked about her secret to living a long and happy life, Betty replied: “A happy marriage, blessed family and good friends that fill your life with fun and laughter!”

Betty was born on the 24th September 1925 in Ireland. At the age of 17, with determination and a suitcase full of her belongings, she left Ireland and moved to England to begin a new chapter in her life. Two years later, she met Edric Brophy, her future husband. Their connection was instant, and they married in the same year.

Betty and Edric, both family-oriented, raised a large family of four daughters and four sons, which has now expanded to many beloved grandchildren.

Bozena Szczepaniak, Home Manager at Queen’s Court, said: “It was an absolute joy to celebrate Betty’s birthday, and it was wonderful to see her surrounded by family and friends.

“Here at Queens Court, we’re committed to helping residents live active and fulfilling lives, so we love to celebrate incredible milestones – and Betty’s 100th birthday was no exception. It was lovely to raise a glass of bubbles with her and her family to mark such a fantastic milestone.”

“The team worked tirelessly to make sure her day was one to remember, and we would like to thank everyone who came along to wish Betty a happy birthday.

Queen’s Court has been designed to deliver the very best standards of care and to enable residents to live active and fulfilled lives. The home provides full-time residential, nursing and specialist dementia care, as well as short-term respite care, and it has its very own cinema, hair and beauty salon and café.
