Home manager takes helm at Saffron Walden’s newest care home

A new care home in Saffron Walden has announced the appointment of its Home Manager.

Care UK has hired Abhilash Gopi to lead the team at Bailey Lodge when it opens in February 2026 on Radwinter Road.

Abhilash previously worked at Care UK’s sister homes Prince George House and Hartismere Place, most recently holding a position at Davers Court. He brings with him over eight years of management experience and a wealth of expertise in nursing and social care.

He said: “I chose to join Care UK over eight years ago because of its values and ethos, which align closely with my own.

“During my time at Davers Court, I’ve learnt that being patient and understanding as well as maintaining strong communication and listening skills are vital – as is remaining calm in any situation.

“My focus has always been on improving standards by delivering high-quality, person-centred care so residents can lead fulfilling and happy lives. I was also proud to help Hartismere Place achieve an ‘outstanding’ Care Quality Commission rating in 2021.”

In his new position, Abhilash will oversee the day-to-day running of Bailey Lodge, which will provide residential and dementia care for up to 70 residents. Bringing a holistic approach, Abhilash will encourage residents to remain as independent as possible, with the home boasting a range of facilities including a cinema, pub and hair and beauty salon.

He added: “My focus will be on creating a safe, stimulating and enjoyable place to live – somewhere residents are truly proud to call home. We can’t wait to open our doors in February and show the community all that Bailey Lodge has to offer.”

In addition, Michael Faulkner-Dunkley has joined Bailey Lodge as Customer Relations Manager. Michael spent more than a decade running his own customer-focused health and wellbeing businesses before moving into a business development role within the DevOps technology sector.

Speaking about his new position, Michael said: “When the opportunity arose to join Care UK, I was immediately drawn to the company’s strong values and the chance to make a real difference in people’s lives.”

Omar Taylor, Regional Director for Care UK, added: “Bailey Lodge marks an important investment for Care UK, and we’re delighted to have Abhilash and Michael on board.

“Every detail of the home has been carefully designed to deliver the highest standards of care, but it’s the people who truly make the difference. Abhilash brings a wealth of experience, passion and empathy, and I’m confident he’ll be a fantastic home manager, drawing on his success at Davers Court.

“I’m looking forward to working with both Abhilash and Michael as we build the wider team ahead of the home’s opening in February.”

Bailey Lodge’s show suite is now open for viewings.
