A new care home in Southampton has made a generous donation to a local charity dedicated to older people.
To celebrate its upcoming opening on Banister Road in 2026, Care UK’s The Wickets presented Caraway with a £500 donation.
The organisation is known for providing chaplaincy and dementia services for older people in Southampton, bringing together communities to combat loneliness. They also organise regular events, from tea dances to memory cafes.
Beyond the donation, The Wickets is committed to fostering long-term connections with the community. Once open, the care home will host regular sessions and activities for the community, offering residents opportunities to engage with local culture and events from the comfort of a new care home.
Pooja Dhoot, Home Manager at The Wickets, said: “We’re delighted to be supporting Caraway. They do fantastic work for our community, especially those living with dementia, so their mission aligns perfectly with ours.
“As we look ahead to opening our new care home in 2026, it’s important to us that we’re not just building a home but becoming part of the community. Caraway’s approach and dedication to encouraging a tight-knit community and improving older people’s wellbeing reflect the kind of environment we want to foster – one where residents feel connected, valued and engaged.
“We’re looking forward to welcoming Caraway again once the open is open.”
Designed to enable residents to live active and fulfilling lives, while also promoting independence, The Wickets will provide full-time residential, nursing and dementia care, as well as short-term respite care. The home will incorporate space for hobby and leisure activities and include its own cinema, hair and beauty salon and pub.
