Sutton Coldfield care home hosts artful evening

It was an evening filled with joy, music and art for one care home in Sutton Coldfield, which hosted its first-ever art exhibition, complete with a live opera performance.

Care UK’s Mercia Grange, on Lichfield Road, played host to an inspiring display of artworks created by local artist and Peter Forbes, who is part of the home’s maintenance team.

On the night, guests had the opportunity to admire his works, a collection of striking landscapes and expressive portraits, and talk to him about the process of creating art.

Residents and visitors were treated to a live performance by Mezzo-Soprano singer Samantha Oxbourough, who performed classic opera songs. There was also a selection of canapés and refreshments, specially prepared by the home’s Head Chef, for all to enjoy.

Councillor Nitish Raut, Deputy Mayor of the Royal Town of Sutton Coldfield, was also in attendance.

Commenting on the event, Peter Forbes said: “It was a lovely evening connecting with residents and the community over art and music. It was a real privilege to share another passion of mine with everyone. A big thank you to the team and to all those who joined us.’’

Michael McNelis, Home Manager at Mercia Grange, said: “We’ve loved hosting our first art exhibition and opera evening at the home. It is important for us to connect with the community, and art is an excellent way to craft conversations and build meaningful relationships.

“Peter does so much for the home, so we were overjoyed to give something back and display his masterpieces. He is incredibly talented, and we were thrilled to showcase his work to the local community.

“A big thank you to Peter and to all those who joined us in celebrating, including Councillor Raut.’’
