A care home in Sway is embracing the yuletide season by opening its doors for a special reminiscence event.
Sway Place, on Church Lane, is inviting people to revisit traditions from Christmas past by joining residents and team members for a 1950s-themed tea party on Thursday 11th December at 2pm-4pm.
The event is part of Care UK’s ‘Step into Christmas’ initiative, which aims to rekindle festive customs that residents remember from their childhood by reliving them and sharing them with the local community.
On the day, visitors can look forward to toe-tapping classic tunes from Retro Grooves as well as seasonal food and delicious warm drinks specially prepared by the home’s chef. There will also be a host of games for all ages to take part in, including ‘pass the parcel’ and Christmas bingo, to bring the festive cheer.
Guests are also invited to dress to impress and wear their best seasonal or 1950s party attire.
Resident Doreen said: “I’m really looking forward to the celebration. Christmas traditions were always a big part of family life for me – from singing carols around the fire to decorating the tree. It’s lovely to remember those moments and celebrating them together helps keep that warm Christmas spirit alive.”
Francis Bosompim, Home Manager at Sway Place, said: “Christmas is such a special time of year and this event allows us to honour memories from residents’ childhoods, bringing them to life once again.
“This is also a wonderful opportunity to unite the community and pass on traditions that may otherwise be forgotten.
“We’d like to encourage locals to join us to celebrate the festive season and bring the memories of Christmas past to Sway.”
