Orpington care home celebrates dual recognition for quality of care

A care home in Orpington is celebrating after being recognised in not just one, but two areas of quality care provision.

Care UK’s Foxbridge House, on Sevenoaks Road, earned two prestigious accreditations recognising its high standards of care for residents in the later stages of life, as well as its commitment to the armed forces community.

The Gold Standards Framework (GSF) Quality Hallmark Award and Veteran Friendly Framework (VFF) status have been presented to the Orpington home, highlighting exceptional end-of-life nursing care for residents and support for their families, and certifying the enhanced care and support for veterans living at the home.

To celebrate, residents were treated to party food and cocktails, before spending the afternoon listening to a special performance by Vince Cox, who treated them to a private show and performed hits from the 50s through to the 70s, including some lively rock and roll which got everyone dancing along!

The VFF initiative was launched in 2023 with the aim of tackling loneliness and isolation and delivering improved health and wellbeing outcomes for more than 25,000 veterans living in care homes across England. As part of this commitment, the team at Foxbridge House have developed a relationship with Bromley Football Club, who are very supportive of their work with local veterans, even recently providing transportation for a ‘Come Dine with Us’ experience for veterans.

Developed in 2004, GSF is a practical and evidence-based end-of-life care service improvement programme. It is centred around ensuring people live well in the last years of their lives and pass away comfortably in the environment and manner of their choosing.  It helps ensure proactive measures of comfort are in place for the resident and their loved ones.

Stella Barnes, Home Manager at Foxbridge House, said: “We’re humbled our work to ensure all residents live happy and rewarding lives has been recognised through receiving these accolades.

“The team put their all into delivering exceptional care for every resident throughout their time with us, making certain every person feels their wishes are respected. To be recognised for our person-centred care, with particular note to the veterans in the community, means the world to us.

“Our compassionate team ensures residents are treated with dignity and respect, as well as offering practical and emotional support to families to help them through this difficult time.”

The GSF report praised Foxbridge House’s team members for providing effective support to relatives even after their loved one has passed away. It also acknowledged the team's effort in ensuring residents have a good quality of life through personalising their care, including physical, emotional, social and spiritual needs.

Foxbridge House has been designed to deliver the very best standards of care and to enable residents to live active and fulfilling lives. The home provides full-time residential, nursing and dementia care, as well as short-term respite care, and has its very own cinema, hair and beauty salon and pub.
