Poole care home residents go full throttle with motorbike visit

Care home residents in Poole had a wheelie good time after a fleet of motorbikes drove up to their door.

Care UK’s The Potteries, on York Road in Broadstone, was visited by a biker group – much to the resident’s surprise, for a fun-filled afternoon featuring a variety of vehicles to explore.

A convoy of 10 motorbikes, quadbikes and trike motorcycles pulled up outside the home, driven by the Top Hat Riders. Residents were invited to jump in the driver's seat and admire the bike’s craftsmanship before learning more about the bike’s top speeds and how they’re best cared for.

For some residents, the surprise convoy was an opportunity to take a drive down memory lane and share stories of their own memories with their previous bikes.

Resident Jean Roach said: “It was so much fun seeing all these new motorcycles. It brought back wonderful memories when I used to ride on the back of my husband's AJS 500.”

Zita Turner, Home Manager at The Potteries, said: “Everyone enjoyed having the motorbikes visit the home – especially the residents, who loved the roar the bikes made when they drove into the home’s car park.

“Many of the residents have fond memories of the motorbikes they had in their younger years or worked in manufacturing during their careers. We’re delighted that we were able to create a memorable afternoon full of reminiscence and surprises.

“We’re already looking forward to putting our foot down and planning more ‘wheelie’ fun visits and trips that build on the residents’ interests.”

The Potteries offers full-time residential, nursing and dementia care, as well as short-term respite care. The home has been designed to enable residents to live active and fulfilling lives in a luxury environment, and also boasts plenty of space – both indoors and out – for relaxation and recreation.
