Old festive traditions came to life at a care home in Altrincham, where residents welcomed a local nursery for a day of seasonal activities.
Care UK’s Halecroft Grange on Hale Road, joined forces with young visitors from Broussa Day Nursery to revisit customs from Christmas past.

The event was part of Care UK’s ‘Step into Christmas’ initiative, which aims to revive residents’ festive traditions, encouraging them to share memories with the younger generation.
By blending storytelling, crafts and carol singing, the events create a space for meaningful intergenerational connection.
On the day, the home welcomed the young pupils to take part in carol singing. Residents were transported back to their own childhoods as they joined the children to sing cherished songs from their own childhoods.
Maureen Foley, resident at Halecroft Grange, said: “It’s lovely to see the children in the community, listening to them sing Christmas Carols and enjoying themselves is really special.
“I feel it is important to celebrate, especially with family getting together, remembering Christmases past. A tradition I remember from my childhood was going to bed on Christmas Eve and getting up Christmas Day with the Christmas tree being up and decorated, giving the room a magical feeling.”
Suzanna Sumegi, Home Manager at Halecroft Grange, said: “Hearing residents and the children sing together filled the home with such joy. For many residents here, these carols are cherished songs from their own childhood and sharing them with the younger generation was a beautiful way to keep tradition alive.
“The activity really brought out the true spirit of the season, and we are so grateful to Broussa Day Nursery for joining us in bringing the festivities to Altrincham.”
