Residents at a care home in Weymouth and local pupils have been treated to a surprise visit from some four-legged friends.
Care UK’s Anning House, on Cross Road, had special visitors trot into the home – two fluffy alpacas for an afternoon of animal therapy.

Residents, who were joined by pupils from Holy Trinity Church of England Primary School and Nursery, were able to handle and stroke the animals brought in by Alpaca Adventure, before learning about how the sanctuary cares for the alpacas – including what their favourite foods are.
The alpacas were pampered by all, spanning ages from seven to 103 – all sharing the same level of excitement.
Resident Una Russel said: “I used to be a Pets as Therapy dog owner and a member with my church community, and so I often brought therapy dogs to my local neighbours. I was so delighted to see the Alpacas visit us. It was a wonderful afternoon!
Heidi Williams, Home Manager at Anning House, added: “We are always looking for new and exciting experiences for residents to try here at the home, and we thought a visit from some furry friends would be a great way to bring a smile to everyone’s faces.
“The session was a huge success, and it was lovely to hear residents reminisce and share stories about their own family pets. Animal therapy is hugely beneficial for older people, especially those living with dementia, as it can help lift a person’s mood and encourage social interaction.
“We want to say a big thank you to Alpaca Adventure for bringing the alpacas along – it was certainly a memorable day for everyone.”
Anning House provides full-time residential, nursing and dementia care, as well as short-term respite care. The home incorporates plenty of space for leisure activities and hobbies, and has its own cinema, hair and beauty salon and pub. The layout of the building is configured into a series of individual suites, each having a dedicated lounge/dining room to facilitate the creation of close-knit communities.
