Cheltenham care home shortlisted for community award

A care home in Cheltenham has been recognised for its commitment to community engagement.

Care UK’s Sandfields, on Saint George’s Road, has been shortlisted in the community category at the C2S Business Awards.

The accolade aims to reward and recognise organisations in the south-west that show innovation, leadership and community impact in the region, demonstrating the difference they can make to people’s lives

The team at Sandfields was nominated due to its strong emphasis on community involvement. Since 2022, the care home has hosted monthly cafés where people with dementia can enjoy an hour of entertainment, from violin performances and music quizzes to fitness exercises and choirs.

The care home also prides itself on its commitment to local causes. As a member of the Cheltenham Dementia Action Alliance, the home hosts regular informative talks for the public to attend. The team has also formed strong relationships with local schools through gardening projects, recycling initiatives and eco-friendly craft sessions.

Malaika Charles, Home Manager at Sandfields, said: “We are thrilled to have been shortlisted in the community category of the C2S Business Awards.

“Here at Sandfields, we are committed to forming strong connections with the Cheltenham community and strive to give back to the area as much as we can. This is a testament to the team’s dedication to creating meaningful connections and establishing Sandfields as a central part of the community.”

Each year, the home opens its doors for a variety of community events in which locals can enjoy celebrations such as VE Day, Red Nose Day, Cheltenham racing festival and Notting Hill Carnival-inspired events, providing an opportunity for people to make new friends and connections.

What’s more, the home has partnerships with a range of groups including Cheltenham Town FC, Bishop’s Cleeve FC and Everyman Theatre, with plans to expand these collaborations to other local organisations.

Malaika added: “I am incredibly proud of the team for its consistent passion and would like to take this opportunity to say thank you – the work you do is greatly appreciated. Well done, everyone!”

Sandfields is a state-of-the-art care home that provides full-time residential, nursing and dementia care, as well as short-term respite care. The building incorporates plenty of space for hobby and leisure activities, and includes its own cinema, hair and beauty salon and café.
