Leamington Spa care home team member wins nationwide dementia award

A care home in Leamington Spa is celebrating after one of its team members was named one of the best for dementia care.

Jason Duffin, Unit Manager at Priors House, on Old Milverton Lane, was crowned best dementia care coach at the Care UK Stars Awards 2026 – a ceremony that celebrates individual and team excellence at more than 250 care homes across the UK.

This accolade is presented to team members that go above and beyond to enable residents living with dementia to lead fulfilling lives.

As part of his role as a dementia care coach at Priors House, Jason is responsible for promoting the highest standards of resident-centred dementia care by delivering training to other members of the team.

Since joining Priors House in December 2018, he’s also implemented a number of initiatives for residents living in the home’s dementia suite. This includes a popular tea café for residents and their families, enabling them to continue to create positive memories together, which impressed the judges.

Aside from his role as a Unit Manager and Dementia Champion, Jason is also a Veteran Champion, part of the Veteran friendly framework (VFF) scheme, an accreditation Priors House received last year.

Jason said: “It’s an honour to receive this award, and I’m grateful for the support of the rest of the team. Dementia is a condition that remains misunderstood, so I’m proud to play a part in building a more dementia-friendly Leamington Spa.”

Francine Summers, Home Manager at Priors House, said: “We’re proud to provide the highest standards of dementia care at the home, which Jason plays a crucial part in.

“It can be a challenging time for families after a loved one is diagnosed with dementia, but Jason is always there to help reassure them. He lives and breathes our values, promoting person-centred care with everything he does. His knowledge of the condition and his drive to educate others is second to none, so we’re very lucky to have him.

“I’d like to say a big thank you to Jason for his hard work; his award is incredibly well-deserved.”

Priors House, which is rated ‘Outstanding’ by the CQC, is a state-of-the-art care home which provides full-time residential, nursing and dementia care, as well as short-term respite care. Designed to enable residents to live enjoyable and fulfilling lives, the home has its very own cinema and hair salon, and there is plenty of space – both indoors and out – for relaxation and recreation.
