Sevenoaks care home teams up with local youngsters

Residents at a care home in Sevenoaks put their thinking hats on for a puzzling afternoon with some special guests.

Residents from Care UK’s Weald Heights, on Bourchier Close, are visited every Thursday by Sevenoaks School pupils, and this time, the children wanted to lead an activity that included a giant word search.

The children created their own giant word search for the residents to unscramble, each gifted a mini chocolate for every right answer, and the winner secured the coveted bag of Maltesers.

The residents enjoyed the afternoon and praised the girls for coming up with their own word search.

Resident Dr John Simpson said: “Thank you so much to the students for their hard work and for the generous prizes! It was such a fun and enjoyable afternoon.”

Maria Covington, Home Manager at Weald Heights, said: “We were delighted to welcome Sevenoaks School for such a fun afternoon.

“Intergenerational relationships can be incredibly beneficial to both younger and older people alike and can help provide residents with a stronger sense of wellbeing and purpose. It was wonderful to see everyone teaming up and getting so absorbed in the giant word search – there was plenty of laughter and friendly competition!

“We’re very grateful to Sevenoaks School pupils for visiting us, and we look forward to solving many more puzzles together in the future.”

Weald Heights is a purpose-built care home designed to deliver luxury hotel-style comfort for residents, complete with a café, hair and beauty salon, cinema and beautiful gardens. The home is divided into separate residential, nursing and dementia care suites, encouraging close-knit communities where residents can get to know each other, and where people with similar needs can be cared for together.
