Fleet care home hosts paw-some competition

A care home in Fleet opened its doors to a number of four-legged friends as it held a canine contest.

The team at Care UK’s Bourley Grange, on Bourley Road in Church Crookham, spent a fur-bulous afternoon hosting the annual Crufts-style competition.

The community and its daring dogs competed in a variety of fun categories, including the cutest puppy, most handsome boy, mini agility and fancy dress.

A panel of dog-loving residents had their scorecards at the ready to judge and fuss over the pooches that took part. Prizes were awarded to the golden retriever Yogi, Ted and Nala for agility who were named the top dogs of the day.

Resident and judge Janie shared how much she had enjoyed being part of the event and having such an important role.

She said: “It was such a great day! I loved seeing all the puppies visit our home as well as the community coming to join in on our dog show!”

The money raised on the day from tickets and contributions was donated to the ICU babies at Frimley Park Hospital.

Racquel Merdegia, Home Manager at Bourley Grange, said: “The Bourley Crufts canine competition is always one of the highlights of our year. It’s wonderful to see residents so engaged and to see the joy these furry friends bring.

“At Bourley Grange, we aim to host events that encourage reminiscing about the past and social interaction. Many residents kept animals in their younger years, so this event brings back cherished memories and creates a thriving atmosphere.

“It’s events like this that really bring our community together. We’re already looking forward to next year!”

Bourley Grange provides full-time residential, nursing and dementia care, as well as short-term respite care. The home has been designed to deliver the very best standards and enable residents to lead active and fulfilled lives in a luxury environment.
