Slough care home residents take part in flamenco workshop

Residents at a care home in Slough have put their flair, spark and sass to the test and proven that age is just a number after taking part in a dance workshop.

The team at Care UK’s Oak House, on Forest Close off Wexham Road, organised a flamenco dance performance for residents to encourage social interaction and explore creative movements. 

Keen to make the home match the theatrical afternoon, the lounge was transformed into a Spanish-inspired ballroom complete with flags, banners and cultural hats. 

Residents were transported to Andalusia and treated to a lively performance from dancer Juanita, before being encouraged to copy and follow the passionate and fiery movements. 

Resident Rose Townshend, aged 83, said: “It was phenomenal. I still have my Spanish flag and passport. The flamenco dancer was great. She was great at telling us the Spanish stories". 

Bozena Szczepaniak, Home Manager at Oak House, added: “It’s always an exciting time when we invite performers to our home, and the workshop Juanita delivered was brilliant.

“It’s really important for us to build relationships with talented local individuals and groups. We work hard to create a homely and exciting environment for everyone that’s full of surprises, and the flamenco workshop certainly fitted the bill!

“This session brought a joyful and creative twist to our activities. The live performance became a firm favourite among residents and team members – who said wellbeing care can’t include heels and hats?”
