A care home is calling on the people of Edinburgh and beyond to send birthday cards to a resident to make her milestone day extra special.
The team at Care UK’s Murrayside, on South Beechwood in Corstorphine, has invited the local community to celebrate Mary Davidson Smith, who is turning 105 in July.

The goal is to surprise her with 105 cards filled with messages of congratulations, kindness and good cheer – one for each year of her life.
Suzanne Welsh, Home Manager at Murrayside, said: “We are so excited to celebrate Mary’s special day and want to make this milestone unforgettable.
“Mary is a huge part of life here and loves getting involved in activities with her fellow residents. She’s lived such an adventurous life, living and travelling all over the world. Now, we’re calling not only on the people of Edinburgh, but across the globe to send us your birthday cards.
“Let’s smash that 105-card target and give Mary the celebration she deserves!”
Mary was born in Korea and spent many of her younger years living around the globe, including time in London, Canada and the USA. She later joined the Royal Navy and was posted to Washington DC, where she met her future husband, British Army officer Charles Wynard Davidson Smith.
She moved to Murrayside in August 2024 and has since become a much-loved member of the home’s community.
Well-wishers are invited to send their cards by Friday 3rd July to:
