A care home in Altrincham has raised £1,200 for a cancer charity thanks to a special celebration.
The team at Care UK’s Halecroft Grange, on Hale Road in Hale Barns, welcomed the community to a summer garden party and raised funds for Cancer Research UK, which is dedicated to saving lives through research, influence and information.

Guests enjoyed live music from a string quartet, which filled the home with much-loved classics, while both young and older visitors were delighted by a very special visit from two Shetland ponies, Mini and Bear, brought in by Simply Shetlands from Altrincham.
Local businesses, including Majestic Wine and Ace Kustoms Tattoo Shop, offered crafts and plants in a charity raffle to boost funds.
To keep energy levels high, the home’s head chef served sweet treats and refreshments, including coffee and walnut cake, lemon drizzle, and vanilla flower cupcakes.
Resident Philomena Woolley, 85, said: The whole event was marvellous; it’s lovely welcoming people from the community into our home. I really enjoyed meeting new people. It’s important that people from the local area come into our home and see what we do here.”
The event was organised by resident Hilary MacIver, who had one wish: to raise money for Cancer Research UK. To bring her vision to life, the team at Halecroft Grange worked closely with her family to ensure the event was a success.
Suzanna Sumegi, Home Manager at Halecroft Grange, said: “We had such a lovely time welcoming the community for this fundraising event. A big thank you to Hilary’s family for driving the event forward, donating plants and helping to make it an unforgettable day.
“Events like this are important as they bring the community together and provide opportunities for residents to connect with others. What made the day even more special is knowing we had raised such a significant sum for Cancer Research UK, helping the charity continue its vital work supporting those who need it most.
“A big thank you to everyone who joined us for making the day so special. It was a joy to be part of it.”
Designed to enable residents to lead active and fulfilling lives, while also promoting independence, Halecroft Grange incorporates plenty of space for hobby and leisure activities, including a café, hair and beauty salon and pub. The building has been configured into a series of neighbourhoods to facilitate the creation of close-knit communities and encourage social interaction among the residents.
