‘Inspiring’ Hammersmith care home wins prestigious award

A Hammersmith care home was in high spirits after winning a national award for inspiring intergenerational activities.

Care UK’s St Vincent’s House, on Queen Caroline Street, were crowned the winners at the Global Intergenerational Week Competition. The award highlights its work and creative partnerships with local charity TimeGivers, schools and regular young volunteers which bring different generations together through shared activities.

As part of the project, called ‘Bridging Smiles, Timeless Connections’, residents and children have enjoyed art, storytelling, music, and games, building strong friendships across generations. The initiative even inspired the creation of a colourful art wall in the home and a storybook capturing the special moments shared by residents and their young visitors.

Resident Keith Lyons, 85, said: “I really enjoy the intergenerational visits at the home. Spending time with the younger visitors brings so much joy, energy and laughter into my day. It is wonderful to share stories, play games and learn from each other. These visits help me feel connected to the community and give us all something to look forward to. The kindness and enthusiasm of the children and young people brighten the atmosphere and create very special memories for everyone involved.”

St Vincent’s House is designed to enable residents to live active and fulfilled lives while also promoting independence. The highly experienced team provide full-time dementia and nursing care, as well as short-term respite care.
