Shrewsbury care home team member braves the shave for charity

A Shrewsbury care home team member has gone under the clippers all in the name of charity.

Laura Corbett, Team Leader at Care UK’s Oxbow Manor on Oteley Road, completed her ‘Brave the Shave’ challenge at an event to raise funds for Macmillan Cancer Support, with help from residents and support from the community.

The challenge brought people from across the town together for an afternoon of fundraising, which included a bake sale, raffle and, of course, the main event: Laura’s head shave.

As a result, Laura raised £610 – a figure that Care UK matched to bring the grand total to £1,220, helping the charity continue its vital work supporting people affected by cancer.  

Laura said: “My mother's journey from her diagnosis to when she died was supported and comforted so well by the Macmillan team. I felt I wanted to do my bit so others in the same position can be helped by such a fantastic team.”

Michelle Maiden, Home Manager at Oxbow Manor, added: “We’re incredibly proud of Laura; she showed real commitment.

“Macmillan Cancer Support is extremely close to everyone’s hearts here, which is why it’s important for us to raise funds for such a vital cause.

“The atmosphere on the day was amazing, and it was fantastic to see so many people come together to support such an important cause. Events like this really show the power of community. Thank you to everyone who joined us for such a special day.”
